One of the things that many people in education like about Google Apps for Education is that it isn't a locked environment. What I mean by this is that Google makes it not only possible but easy for developers to create things (we'll get more specific in a moment) that extend the capabilities of Google services like Docs, Sheets, etc., as well as the capabilities of their Chrome browser. What this means is that if you ever find yourself using a Google service or Chrome to access the internet, and have found yourself thinking, "It would be so cool if this would do [X]," chances are pretty good that someone has made something you can add that will make it work like that.
